I've also been listening to Affa alot lately.
I think it's been all the SG talk floating baout that got me to put it on & I'd forgotten what a bloody great album it was. [img]graemlins/thumbs_up.gif[/img] [img]graemlins/thumbs_up.gif[/img]
It's a funny album...because I would say it's one of the best albums I have ever heard, and one of my top 3 favourite ever. And yet there are a few tracks that seem so misplaced to my mind - The Best Thing, Chained To You, and the blasted Animal Song (sorry, it's my pet hate). For the main part, Affa is vocally, musically and lyrically superb, and there are moments where both Darren and Daniel's talents shine, separately and together. And yet those three seem too upbeat in an album with such depth. Affirmation fits as it brings some sort of uplift to it all, especially when my CD returns to the beginning after the pain of IDKYAM. The others sound a little too poppy, almost as if they might be forced in the same way as some of the songs on Spin are.
It's so weird, because I do like TBT and CTY live, they work very well...but somehow on the album I always want to skip that middle section and get into the second half.
Got to agree about YCSBF - I can remember the feeling of being blown away by the intensity of it the first time I listened to it. It is so timeless and beautiful, like it comes from a different place entirely.
If only the music could still 'feel like this'.

LOL see Sharon I always loved the Best thing as he always said the somewhat poppy lyrics always hid that it was a fairly twisted song in his obsessive/clingy ways at the time thinking someone else could be the best thing about him. I adore it for those reasons.
I Love CTY cause its kind of the same thing.. his obsession with another person but put in a poppy way lol
I just love the whole album.. it goes from such highs to some real lows and everywhere in between.
